THIS IS MY WHY. THIS IS MY PURPOSE. THIS IS YCC.
From an early age, I’ve always had a passion for children.
Growing up in West Fresno, raising my own children, and being connected to my village and my community, I’ve witnessed firsthand some of the challenges our young people face—bullying, broken homes, crime, lack of resources, and sometimes simply not having a safe place or a trusted person to turn to.
For years, I kept asking myself, “What can I do to help?”
What I didn’t realize was—I was already doing the work.
From my involvement with Drippsquad, to working with at-risk youth in group homes, schools, and community organizations like Breath of Evolution, every experience was building something in me. Every young person I encountered, every conversation, every challenge, and every opportunity to show up was preparing me for a purpose I hadn’t fully recognized yet.
Then God made it clear:
“This is your time.”
And YCC—Youth Community Conversations—was born.
YCC is more than an organization or a program to me. It is my calling.
My goal is to create spaces where young people can be themselves, feel safe enough to speak, receive guidance without judgment, and know that somebody truly sees them. I want them to understand that where they come from does not determine where they can go.
Sometimes our youth don’t need another lecture.
They need someone who will listen.
Someone who will show up.
Someone who will remind them, “You matter, your voice matters, and your future matters.”
I’m grateful for Another Level Training Academy (ALTA) for believing in community leadership and creating opportunities for residents like me to turn our passion into action. ALTA understands that change doesn’t always begin in a boardroom. Sometimes it begins on the block, around a kitchen table, in a school hallway, or during one honest conversation with a young person who just needs to know somebody cares.
I represent the same community I serve, and that matters to me.
I will continue showing up, building relationships, creating safe spaces, and pouring into the next generation because this work is personal.
This is my why.
This is my purpose.
This is YCC.
And we’re just getting started.
Because when you give young people a safe place to use their voice, don’t be surprised when they use that voice to change the whole community.
We’re not just giving youth a seat at the table—we’re preparing them to build tables of their own.
